Owen has also started staying awake more after he eats. He likes to lay in his crib or on a blanket on the floor and kick his legs. He also likes to look at brightly colored objects. His current favorite is the red Astros cap Jennifer gave him. I tried to take a picture of it this morning, but the camera battery died. Look for it in a forthcoming blog.

"He's a bruiser!"
That's what the nurse said when I took Owen in for a weight check this morning. He's a whopping 7 lbs 9 oz!!! That means he gained a pound-and-a-half in less than 3 weeks. We've also taken a tape measure to him, and our unofficial finding is that he's over 21 inches. He may have had a slow start, but he's really catching up!

Owen's got a belly button!
When I picked Owen up from his nap yesterday afternoon, I felt something weird and wondered how a piece of plastic got in his shirt. But it was just the stump from his umbilical cord, so now he has an official belly button! We think it maybe it's going to be an "outie". I assume photo documentation of the severed stump is unnecessary.

December 1, 2007Happy Due Date Owen!
Today's the day we thought Owen would arrive, but we've already had nearly a month to spend with him instead. He's growing every day. In fact several of his preemie outfits are already too small! Compare how he looks in his monkey suit here to the photo below that we took after his first bath.
Owen's Aunt Jenny was here to visit this weekend, and we had a great time just hanging out together. Thanks for coming Jenn!

Since he surprised us 4 weeks early, we're just finally getting around to it. Without further adieu: Here's Owen in all his glory - all 4 lbs. 15 oz. of him!
