Rollin' at My Homie

How Owen Rolls:

Step 1:  Assume piked position
Step 2:  Grab pants leg
Step 3:  Let gravity take over
Step 4:  Lie there and look cool while bad hip hop remix plays in background

Sideways Superbaby

So here's the much-referenced sideways video.  I can recommend a good chiropractor if you end up with a crick in your neck!

When Owen was about a month old, Scott discovered that this maneuver was a good way to distract him and get him to stop crying.  But now it's a good way to get him to laugh!

Don't rush off to get a neck adjustment too soon because I went and made another sideways video yesterday.  Good grief!!!  It documents a milestone in Owen's mobility so stay tuned!

Slideshow

I went through our photos and picked out some that I haven't posted before to make this slideshow.  If I don't have a recent photo of you with Owen, hurry up and come see him!

Chatterbox

Here's some video to hold you over until I can figure out the sideways one that I took last week.  If Scott can't help me figure it out this coming weekend I'll just post it as is.

Owen's added quite a few sound effects to his repertoire over the past few weeks.  He snickers, shrieks, does the inhale giggle (try it and you'll know what I'm talking about!), has both a happy grunt and a pay-attention-to-me grunt, and can coo at a variety of decibels.  I put him on the floor last night and he "talked" for 20 minutes.  It's just so nice that he's starting to be able to communicate with us in other ways besides crying.

Personal Ad #11307

SWM, 14 weeks, searching for his valentine.  Has little hair, no teeth and a strong maternal attachment but still quite charming.  Inquirers must love bright colors, vibrating seats and staying up all night.

Special Visitors

Owen had two first-time visitors to his house today.  This morning his Great Grandmother, or GG as Owen will know her, came to see him, and he took a nice long nap in her arms after they played on the floor a little while.  Then this afternoon he had his first play date!  Owen and I have been going on afternoon walks with my neighbor Amanda and her 7-month-old Solomon, but the weather kept us indoors today (wind chill in the teens and dusting snow).  Of course it was just like that commercial where the moms are laughing and having a great time and then the camera pans to a row of babies sacked out in their car seats.  The boys' only real interaction occurred just before the above photo was taken when Owen tipped sideways and bonked Solomon in the side of the head.
Owen's Grandmother Kimeran was here today too and I got a great video of her with him.  But unfortunately I held the camera sideways when I took it, and it seems videos don't rotate as easily pictures do.  I followed the instructions on my Mac's help menu right up until it asked me to pay $29.99.  I figure each of you can send me a dollar or we can all just turn our heads 90 degrees left.  Let me know what you decide!

Shake, Rattle, &...

maybe next month we'll roll.  But right now two out of three's not bad.  Owen's grip is strong and his arm movements are becoming more intentional.  I'm really going to have to consider a shorter hairstyle or risk having bald patches around my temple!  My apologies for the over commentary during the video.  I have to keep Owen distracted or he gets mesmerized by the camera, and I think you'll enjoy this more than 15 seconds of him doing a bug-eyed stare.  Feel free to mute me!

Owen got another set of shots on Wednesday, and it was better and worse than last time.  He cried a lot less initially, but it's also taking longer for him to get over the side-effects this time.  He's been whimpering a lot and his leg really hurts (don't ask how I figured this out - it makes me feel too guilty!).

Thank you for all the great feedback we're getting on the blog.  It's fun to do, and we're glad we are able to share Owen with all of you this way.

Lone Star Love

We had such a wonderful weekend sharing Owen with some of his Texas family.  My dad (or Coach, as Owen will know him), Memaw, Granddad and Aunt Pam (Aunt Nana to Owen) were all so excited to meet him, and we spent the majority of the time sitting in our living room and passing him around!

Owen loved Granddad's red hat, Aunt Pam's Mickey Mouse voice and Memaw's comforting arms.  And he slept like a rock Sunday morning when Coach held him.  In fact he slept great every night they were here, going from bedtime until 4 AM without waking.  The night after they left, we were up at 1, 2, 4 and 6.  I sure do wish they would come back and wear him out some more!

Threeeeeee

Owen is a quarter of a year old today!  This is just a quick post to document the occasion.  He spent the weekend getting acquainted with his Texas Greats and his Aunt Nana.  Coach came too, and we all had a wonderful time.    Then we followed that up with not one, but two Super Bowl parties tonight.  Be looking for another post about this weekend in a day or two.  Right now we're going to go get some rest and recover from all of the excitement!
