Run, run, fast as you can...

Owen has been asking to make gingerbread men for several weeks now.  All I can figure is there's this one page in one of his Christmas books where a little girl is making them, and he got his mind set on doing the same.  And since I can't resist a Christmas wish, I should be grateful she wasn't making something like fruit cake or eggnog souffle.  So this morning he had one of his cutie pie friends over, and they played Cars, ate reindeer PB&J's (that didn't look anywhere near this cute), and then decorated and promptly dismembered a few gingerbread men.  It was an overall tradition-worthy experience.

As I told you on the phone, the teachers on my campus do a great job of making memories for their students to remember. One of those involves the gingerbread man as well. During the first week of school the teachers pretend the gingerbread man is loose in the building and they use that excuse to take their students on a tour of the building, going from place to place, the gym, the library, the cafeteria, the counselor's office, the speech therapist's office, the nurse's office, the workroom, the front office and the principal and assistant principal's offices. This allows the children to get to see the building and meet everybody in the different parts of the building. Of course when they return to their classroom they find the gingerbread man and they get to eat him. Every person they meet on the tour directs them to another part of the building to look for the gingerbread man. This was an idea they had before I became principal and they have continued it for the past 19 years. So, if Owen were in kindergarten here he would be having the time of his life chasing the gingerbread man all over our building. What an awesome memory you just made. Hang on to these pictures and sit down with him often to refresh the good times the two of you have shared during his life. What a magnificent mother you are and Scott is a fabulous father. Owen is very lucky!!! See you in a week.
